For over half a century, our mission has remained constant—City Youth Now supports youth in the San Francisco foster care and juvenile justice systems by providing funds for services and programs that promote stability and personal growth.
City Youth Now, originally founded in 1950, is the first non-profit organization of its kind in the history of the United States’ juvenile court system. For over 58 years, City Youth Now has been diligently working behind the scenes to address the unique needs of children and youth under the jurisdiction of the San Francisco Juvenile Court System. Probation officers, social workers, attorneys, and others come to us daily with requests for youth under their supervision. These requests can take many forms.
- Emergency requests from youth in crisis situations who are—falling between the cracks of the foster care, delinquency or mental health systems
- Educational requests from youth facing serious challenges in school because they have attended 9-10 different schools over the course of their educational careers
- Enrichment requests from youth who appear to be doing fine by external standards, but are hurting internally from the trauma or hardships they have experienced
City Youth Now works to ensure that youth in the juvenile court system have the same positive youth development opportunities as other children to grow into mature and successful adults.
